-Salie's Wushu Training

Salie's Dedicated Wushu Training in China

Program Title: Advance Wushu Course
Participant: Salie Lewis
From: London
Date: 19th Aug -- 9th Sep 2009

Salie, the current representative for the Belgium National Wushu Team, was preparing for the world Wushu championship in Canada this October. She came to China specifically to improve her skills! Also with her was her teacher, Alan Winner. They trained in China for 21 days training, from the 19th August to the 9th September 2009.

Training in Beijing

Salie trained at the Capital Institute of Physical Education with Teacher Zhaolin, a former member of the Beijing Wushu Team and a former national champion in Tai Chi.

During the sessions they focused on Salie's Long Fist, Straight Sword and Spear. Teacher Zhao helped her to compose new combinations, corrected her basic techniques and taught Salie some new methods of training to further develop her Wushu. We also arranged two special meals for Alan, Salie and Zhao at the popular spot of Huohai, the lake behind the Forbidden City.

Training in Henan

Salie and Alan also had three days training with professional Wushu athletes in the Henan Team, staying in a hotel near the team in Zhengzhou. This is the third time that Salie and Alan have visited the Wushu team and they have become good friends, looking after Salie and helping with her training. The Belgian athlete said she was always amazed and inspired by watching their training sessions, as the Chinese team are always hard-working, focused and have unbelievable power and ability in Wushu. They show great dedication to Chinese sports!

After training Salie and Alan visited the Shaolin Temple and Kung Fu schools in nearby, before spending time at the Longmeng Grottos in Luoyang, one of the most significant historical attractions in China.

Wudang Trip

Finally Salie and Alan travelled to Wudang Mountain for a week's training there. After visiting three Kung Fu and Tai Chi schools there, and after exploring the mountain itself, Salie's teacher spent some time in meditation training and learning Chinese Taoist philosophy from Priest Wang, who is 75 years old and living on top of the mountain. After spending a few days with Priest Wang, Alan became very attached to him, took him as his adopted father, and learnt a great deal about a pure and simple way of life. Alan mentioned that this was someone he had always wanted to meet.
